"Right over the city, clear as a bell," said Templin. "Anyone that was looking up would have seen it. You don't usually see military or even civilian aircraft's jets that leave contrails making those kind of severe departures off of the given route."

"Templin says the aircraft made several; severe 180 degree turns in the sky in the shape of an "S", even more unusual."

So obvious the aliens decided to fly their mountain back home.

Definitely not a B-2. This ? Or This ? As an avowed airplane nut, I find this pretty exciting.

It reminds me of the "cancelled" A-12. Probably NGB prototype.

That's an excellent guess. There's nothing in the pictures to indicate scale.

I think that it's been decided it's too small for that.

Nah. The shots of it sited over Texas indicate it is on scale or larger than a B-2. Also dual exhaust ports indicating at least two engines.

Not to mention this strange B-2 overflights not long after the "other" plane had been sighted over Amarillo.

This is all very exciting indeed!

Now that you mention it, it does make sense. You wouldn't get contrails like that from a single engine.

Well, if it is unmanned, they could have built a larger prototype, also it could be an RQ-170 Sentinel. I don't know the angle the photo was shot at, it could adjust how the silhouette would appear.

Funny how things get a little dicey in the former bloc and suddenly a mysterious new toy appears over two highly populated cities...

What confuses me about these sightings is that they are over cities. There shouldn't be any unmanned system of that size flying over anything. Period. It's not legal yet.

Of course, the government is apparently above the law so it might not matter

You're welcome. And the other thing to think about is that his LRSB program was announced back in 2011 and is still being funded. That means that the likelihood of there being a flying prototype is very strong. I'll bet the Chinese already have better pictures, though.

I wonder how many "off the shelf parts were actually able to be used. It seems like pulling a p-8 poseiden and converting a 747 air frame (or at least engine wings) could have been more cost efficient for replacing B-52s. NOTE: I'm clearly not an engineer and there are probably many many things wrong with my logic.

I would guess that they are talking more about electric motors, bolts, switches, pumps, wiring harnesses, and other internal components. And finding new and exciting ways to package those existing parts into a different, probably smaller, airframe.

I'm not an engineer either, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Either that or it wasn't a drone. I don't know if the government would risk flying a drone over populated areas with all the negative PR they've gotten over such issues.

Another similar sighting was followed by a flight of 3 B-2's flying over Amarillo without making an effort to hide as seen by the very clear contrails. This might sound like some crazy tinfoil hat nonsense but I have a feeling this might be yet another plane from one of the many black projects that has yet to be officially revealed to the public.

Who knows?

I think there's a difference in putting on a tinfoil hat and recognizing that the military does secret things.

I doubt it's anything especially special, just a side effect of living in a time when a telescopic lensed camera is easy to come by and people have a global platform to share their findings.

We might learn what it is someday, or we may never know. It's interesting to speculate about either way. I only mention the UAV thing because it's interesting to me that the AF would just ignore airspace restrictions entirely if whatever this is is top secret, in the sense that it's obviously so highly classified they won't even bring it out to a UAV proving ground.
